Shimmering Colors: The Magic of Iridescence is our Major Workshop to be led by Bobbie Irwin, October 8, 9, and 10, 2019 at the Julie Penrose House in southern Colorado Springs. There are only 3 spots remaining in the 20 participant workshop, but we would also like to have a few people on waitlist in case Life Happens to somebody and they need someone else to take their spot. Bobbie shared the following information regarding weaving iridescence:

Iridescent fabrics appear to change colors as you move them or view them from different angles or in different lights. This seemingly magical effect may be easier to achieve than you might think. Many of the “rules” you may have heard about iridescence are unnecessarily restrictive or have little truth to them, and all of them have exceptions. There are many different yarns, color combinations, and weave structures that can produce the effect. Iridescence is multiple colors, black-and-white, and in warp- or weft-dominant fabrics are some of the amazing possibilities.

Bobbie Irwin has been weaving since 1973 and teaching for guilds, conferences, schools, and shops since 1986, in 40 states, 2 Canadian provinces, and Australia. She was a Contributing Editor to  Handwoven and Spin-Off magazines for many years and is the author of four books, including her most recent, Weaving Iridescence: Color Play for the Handweaver

As soon as possible you will need to decide the number of colors you would like to use in your warp. All yarns are provided by the presenter. You may choose the 3 basic colors, or these plus an additional 1-3 colors. The warp width is also based on the number of colors used:

(3 colors = 9″ warp, 4 colors = 12″, 5 colors= 15″, and 6 colors = 18″). The materials fee, which includes the warp plus use of 24 weft colors, is $8.00 per warp color. If you have taken Bobbie’s previous workshop, and wish to do it again, let her know what colors you had before, so she can change it for you this time.

We will obtain the warps and instructions for warping your loom this summer and distribute early enough so you can have your loom ready to go for the workshop.

Total workshop fee is currently estimated to be $145.00 per person, plus your material (yarn) fee: 3 colors = $24, 4 colors = $32, 5 colors = $40, or 6 colors = $48.
