Three-Color Pickup on the Inkle Loom
By Annie McHale

This workshop is for experienced inkle weavers. Students must know how to warp their loom on their own and be familiar and comfortable doing Baltic-style pickup on the inkle loom. 3-Color Pickup is a more complex version of Speckled Background/ Baltic pickup. We will look at examples, discuss variations, and learn to read and create charts for the designs. Students will set up their looms and weave a sampler of patterns.

Annie MacHale has been weaving on an inkle loom for more than 40 years. This type of loom makes narrow pieces, no more than 6” in width. Within this narrow constraint, there are endless possibilities for combining colors into patterns. When she creates a woven piece, she designs for both function and beauty. She has created many types of useful everyday items including: shoelaces, scarves, belts, bags, clothing trim, dog leashes, straps for cameras, guitars and other instruments and many costume pieces.
