Artist's Statement

My first introduction to the fun of handcrafts when I was 12 and my Norwegian grandmother in Stavanger, Norway taught me embroidery. At 16 I attended Hardanger Folkehogskule in Lofthus, Norway where I learned to weave on a loom. In 1983 a Danish friend taught me a Scandinavian felt making technique for making slippers. From that point on, felt became a focus for me and I eventually wrote five books on the subject and made two videos under the name “Anne Vickrey” in addition to developing a line of felt making craft kits for children and adults.

Recently retiring from the kit and supplies business, my work has been in juried and invitational shows, among them the “Animal Fiber: Art Informs Shibori” in Hong Kong, “Facets of Fiber” at the Art Institutes of Denver, “Fiber Celebrated 2012” at the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center. My work was also accepted into the Surface Design Association Fashion Show 2011, and in HGA’s Convergence 2012 Fashion show.

I have been managing the FeltCrafts® business with my husband, Don, currently in Woodland Park, Colorado for over 20 years. The company provides felt artists around the world with tools and machines for felt making.
